Atmospheric Urban Landscape In Watercolor With Jayson Yeoh
Discover the evocative charm of urban environments through the lens of watercolor in this immersive workshop with acclaimed artist Jayson Yeoh. Focusing on atmosphere and mood, the class guides participants to transform ordinary cityscapes into expressive, dreamlike compositions, emphasizing light, shadow, and subtle tonal variation.
Under Jayson’s guidance, you will learn to balance water and pigment, allowing the white of the paper to create luminosity and depth. The workshop encourages a focus on capturing the spirit of a place rather than architectural exactness, using soft edges, lost-and-found lines, and the interplay of light to convey emotion and movement in your urban scenes.
Key skills covered include:
-
Tonal Mastery: Creating depth and mood through the nuanced use of color and value.
-
Expressive Composition: Suggesting architectural forms with selective details and negative space.
-
Atmospheric Techniques: Utilizing wet-on-wet and layering methods to evoke mist, distance, and ambiance.
-
Human Touch: Incorporating minimal figures and gestures to give scale and life to your cityscapes.
Designed for both watercolor enthusiasts and beginners, this workshop offers a reflective, hands-on approach to urban sketching, leaving you with a finished piece that captures not just a place, but the feeling of being within it.
