Black & White Bangalow In Watercolor With Kanchan Mehendale
Step into Singapore’s colonial heritage through watercolour!
This workshop takes inspiration from the iconic black & white colonial bungalows along Malcolm Road — elegant architecture nestled in lush tropical greenery.
The Black and White Bungalows on Malcolm Road, built in the 1920s by Singapore's Public Works Department (PWD), were designed for high-ranking British civil servants to support the expanding colonial administration after World War I. As early PWD prototypes, these functional, timber-beamed, whitewashed homes are known for being integrated into the sloping terrain. These are now managed by the Singapore Land Authority
Do you wonder why this is such an exciting subject to paint!?
✔ Bold contrasts of black beams and white walls make for a dramatic composition in watercolour.
✔ Palm trees and lush greenery silhouettes add freshness and vibrancy to the painting.
✔ Warm red-tiled roofs glowing in the sunlight creates beautiful colour harmony.
