About The Subject

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is the most important traditional holiday in Chinese culture, marking the beginning of the lunar new year. The festival lasts for 15 days, filled with lively customs, family reunions, and vibrant celebrations. Key traditions include setting off fireworks to drive away evil spirits, giving red envelopes (hongbao) filled with money for good luck, and decorating homes with red lanterns, couplets, and symbols of prosperity like plum blossoms and dragons. A highlight of the festivities is the Lion Dance, a dynamic and colourful performance believed to bring good fortune and scare away negative energy. The colour red, symbolising happiness and wealth, is central to the celebration. The Chinese New Year culminates in the Lantern Festival, where people gather to admire beautiful lantern displays, enjoy traditional foods, and celebrate together with loved ones.
