Expressive Nude Life Drawing With Andy Yang
Interested in deepening your understanding of the human form through expressive sketching? Join Andy Yang for an intimate and focused workshop on nude life drawing, where participants will explore how to observe, interpret, and express the figure with spontaneity, rhythm, and emotion.
Blending live demonstration with guided practice, this session offers a refreshing approach to figure drawing—one that values movement, mood, and intuitive mark-making over rigid realism. You’ll learn how to simplify anatomical forms, work confidently with temperature and washes, and develop a visual language that captures more than just proportions—it captures presence.
Working from a live nude model, participants will gain hands-on experience in observing light, shadow, gesture, and structure, while navigating the fluid nature of watercolour. The session also covers techniques for sketching, expressive layering, and using negative space as part of composition.
Andy will share his personal approach to materials—how to assemble a compact, effective figure drawing kit, select paper and dry media for dynamic outcomes, and cultivate confidence through experimentation.
About The Subject
Nude life drawing is a time-honoured practice that sharpens an artist’s eye for proportion, light, and movement. It encourages close observation and quick decision-making, training you to see beyond the surface. In this workshop, dry medium becomes a medium not just of depiction but of expression—perfect for exploring the grace and complexity of the human figure.
About The Artist
Andy Yang is a multidisciplinary Singaporean artist known for his intuitive mark-making, gestural brushwork, and fluid approach to abstraction. Trained in fine art and graphic design, Andy has exhibited widely in both solo and group exhibitions, with works that span painting, sound, and performance. With a keen sensitivity to rhythm and movement, Andy’s figure paintings often reflect a deep engagement with form, mood, and energy rather than strict realism. He approaches life drawing not merely as an academic exercise but as a meditative, expressive practice—where the body becomes a landscape of lines, shapes, and washes.
