Gardens By The Bay In Watercolor With Kanchan Mehendale
Step into Singapore’s garden city through watercolour. This workshop draws inspiration from Gardens by the Bay, where towering Supertrees, lush tropical planting, and the gentle flow of the river create a striking dialogue between nature and the city. A small glimpse of Marina Bay Sands appears in the distance, grounding the scene within Singapore’s skyline without dominating the composition.
Led by Kanchan Mehendale, participants will explore how to interpret this layered landscape in watercolour by balancing organic forms with architectural elements. The focus is on simplifying complex shapes such as the Supertrees and surrounding structures while capturing light, atmosphere, and reflections on water. Attention is given to composition, allowing greenery, sky, and river to work together naturally and guide the viewer’s eye through the scene.
The workshop also explores watercolour approaches for handling contrasting textures, from soft foliage and open skies to defined structures and shimmering water surfaces. Through thoughtful colour choices and tonal control, participants will learn how to create depth, scale, and a sense of calm movement. This subject offers a harmonious mix of structure and fluidity, making it suitable for both beginners and experienced artists seeking to capture Singapore’s unique blend of nature and modern design.
