Lush Oriental Shophouse In Watercolor With Kanchan Mehendale
Inspired by the charming streets of Emerald Hill — where Peranakan architecture meets tropical greenery — this watercolour workshop is all about capturing depth, light, and atmosphere in a loose, artistic, expressive style.
Learn how to simplify ornate facades, suggest foliage, and create a sense of space and softness through layered washes.
Suitable for beginners and experienced artists.
Let’s turn Singapore’s heritage streets into art — one brushstroke at a time.
About The Subject
Capture the vibrant essence of Emerald Hill by painting its beautifully preserved Peranakan shophouses with their ornate facades, pastel tones, and intricate architectural details. Nestled just off the bustling Orchard Road, this heritage enclave offers a quiet charm that contrasts with the surrounding modern cityscape. Use soft washes and delicate strokes to convey the nostalgic elegance of the row houses, while subtly hinting at the life within—residents relaxing on their verandas, or shadows cast by leafy trees lining the street. In the distance, glimpses of the sleek urban skyline rise beyond the heritage rooftops, reflecting Singapore’s unique blend of old-world charm and contemporary energy. A warm, harmonious palette will help bring out the richness and character of this treasured neighbourhood.
