Singapore Heritage Hotels In Ink & Watercolor With Thain Lin
In this course, Thain Lin will share his techniques in sketching and colouring these heritage hotels in “ink and wash”, a popular and highly enjoyable sketching technique favoured by both professional artists and hobbyists alike. Thain Lin will guide participants on how to sketch the seemingly complicated colonial buildings and how to creatively apply watercolours washes on the sketch. This is a hands-on sketching workshop with demo and coaching from Thain Lin. Thain Lin’s techniques and approach are also applicable to on-site sketching (aka “urban sketching”).

About The Subject
Transcending their role as luxurious stays, Raffles Hotel and The Fullerton Hotel stand as architectural gems and living testaments to Singapore's social history. Their colonial-era facades whisper tales of the nation's transformation, while their grand interiors harken back to a time of social gatherings and cultural exchange. These enduring landmarks continue to be cherished parts of Singapore's architectural heritage, offering a glimpse into the nation's rich past and vibrant present.
About The Artist
Thain Lin is a self-taught urban sketcher and experienced artist cum trainer. On weekdays, Thain Lin manages and runs IT projects in a large professional business services firm. On weekends and during his leisure time, he passionately indulges in the process of creating artworks as a means of visually communicating and documenting the urban space around him. He usually paints in his favourite mediums of ink and watercolors of his pet architecture subjects – heritage buildings and shophouses, accompanied by lucious greenery and distinctive human figures. He also enjoys meeting people and helps his clients to paint their homes and favourite places. It’s almost a cliché to say that art is a way to communicate happiness, and that is evidently shown in Thain Lin’s artworks.
