Sweet Pastries In Watercolor With Sarah Lim
Step into the world of dessert illustration through watercolor painting with artist Sarah Lim. This workshop focuses on capturing the charm of sweet pastries, from soft textures and layered details to warm, inviting colours. Participants will learn how to simplify forms, compose visually appealing arrangements, and translate familiar treats into expressive watercolor studies that feel both delicate and vibrant.
Through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice, participants will explore techniques such as colour layering, controlled washes, and tonal variation to create depth and realism. Attention is given to textures like flaky crusts, creamy fillings, and subtle highlights that bring pastries to life on paper. Suitable for beginners and those looking to refine their approach, this session offers a relaxed environment to develop confidence and create a finished piece that reflects both observation and personal interpretation.
About The Artist
Sarah Lim is the founder and creative director of Studio Poppy, a floral and botanical art studio rooted in a deep appreciation for nature. She left a career in advertising over 20 years ago to pursue her passion, establishing Poppy in 2000 to celebrate the beauty of flowers through design and painting. Her work spans weddings, events, and creative collaborations, recognised for its airy compositions, vibrant colour, and use of unexpected botanical elements.
Her practice has been shaped by formal botanical art studies in the United Kingdom and continues to expand through explorations in porcelain and wafer flowers. Sarah’s work has been featured in publications such as Prestige and Magnolia Rouge, and she has presented internationally, including in Sydney and at the Team Flower Conference in Florida. She also conducts hands-on workshops, sharing her knowledge while encouraging individual artistic development.
