Traveler's Company - Sketch Journaling In Japan With Thain Lin
Have you thought about how to best combine your travel with art? Explore the world of travel sketching with Thain Lin in this workshop. Thain Lin will share and guide you in developing your travel sketchbook, and how to approach travel sketching without sacrificing too much of your time for sightseeing, shopping, food and companionship. As this is a hands-on sketching workshop with demo and coaching from Thain Lin, you will learn how to simplify complex scenes or landmarks, and how to approach sketching transportation, food and souvenirs. Thain Lin will also share about his sketching gears and travel sketchbooks and journals from Traveler’s Company so that you can make sound decisions on what to buy and bring for your adventures. Thain Lin’s techniques and approach are also applicable to on-site sketching (aka “urban sketching”).
The topics covered in this workshop include:
● Introduction to travel sketching - the “why, what and how”
● Sketching kit and gears for travel
● Simplification in sketching - the key to fast sketches
● Applying colour washes
● Hands-on travel sketching on an A5 Watercolor card or on your personal
sketchbook.
About The Artist
Thain Lin is a self-taught urban sketcher and experienced artist cum trainer. On weekdays, Thain Lin manages and runs IT projects in a large professional business services firm. On weekends and during his leisure time, he passionately indulges in the process of creating artworks as a means of visually communicating and documenting the urban space around him. He usually paints in his favourite mediums of ink and watercolours of his pet architecture subjects – heritage buildings and shophouses, accompanied by luscious greenery and distinctive human figures. He also enjoys meeting people and helps his clients to paint their homes and favourite places. It’s almost a cliché to say that art is a way to communicate happiness, and that is evidently shown in Thain Lin’s artworks.
