The drypoint are steel points used for engraving the zinc plates. The shapes proposed and the particular angles of the sharpening, initially inspired by the most ancient techniques and the classical tradition, make these tools optimal for drypoint and etching techniques. Furthermore, given the possibility of detail that can be achieved, they are also widely used for embossed engraving, for ceramics and for sculpture. The tip, scratching the metal, creates a groove and raises metal filaments called “barbe” which hold the ink giving a characteristic soft mark.
