Schmincke Aqua Lift-Off Medium is a watercolor medium designed to prepare watercolor paper so that dried colors can be lifted, modified, or corrected after application. It is particularly useful for staining watercolors, which are typically difficult to remove, allowing artists greater flexibility and control over their work. The medium must be applied before color application, isolating the paper to enable subsequent lifting of paint.

For lightly sized papers, such as mould-made watercolor papers, Aqua Lift-Off Medium can be used directly, while for stronger or surface-glued papers, it is recommended to dilute the medium with water and perform pre-tests to ensure optimal results. The product should be brushed onto the painting surface as a sizing layer and allowed to dry completely before applying watercolor. Once dry, it forms a water-insoluble film, so it must never be added directly into paint pans. Tools should be cleaned promptly with water or soap after use, and the medium should be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from frost.
