Introduce students to the ancient craft of pyrography—the art of drawing with fire. In this engaging hands-on workshop, participants will use heated tools to create original designs on wood, learning how to safely apply this technique to produce detailed, textured artwork.
What is Pyrography?
Derived from the Greek words pur (fire) and graphos (writing), pyrography is the process of using heat to mark surfaces, typically wood. This art form blends drawing, design, and craftsmanship, resulting in one-of-a-kind tactile creations.
Workshop Highlights:
- Tool Introduction & Safety
Students will be introduced to pyrography pens and taught proper handling and safety procedures before starting their project.
- Design Planning & Sketching
Participants sketch their design on wood panels, learning how to simplify forms and use line variation to prepare for burning.
- Woodburning Techniques
Learn how to control heat, pressure, and motion to create shading, textures, and depth—transforming flat sketches into detailed pyrographic artwork.
- Finishing & Personalisation
Students complete their works by adding protective finishes or coloured accents, making each piece uniquely their own.
